Steven Gerrard questions Rio Ferdinand about stance on Chelsea
The Liverpool legend is refusing to accept that Chelsea have one hand on the Premier League title
Steven Gerrard has rubbished Rio Ferdinand’s claim that Chelsea have one hand on the Premier League trophy.
The Blues eased to a 2-1 win against top-four rivals Manchester City in the Premier League title race at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Chelsea broke the deadlock after Hazard’s effort was deflected past Citizens goalkeeper Willy Caballero in the eighth minute in west London.
Thibaut Courtois made a rare mistake to allow Manchester City a route back into the Premier League clash after Sergio Aguero capitalised on the error.
However, Fernandinho conceded a penalty before half-time and Hazard restored the home side’s lead despite his initial effort being saved.
Chelsea are seven points ahead of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur with eight games to go in the title race.
While Manchester United legend Ferdinand believes Chelsea now have one hand on the Premier League trophy, Gerrard urged Antonio Conte’s men to stay humble with eight games to go.
“Rio Ferdinand believes they have one hand on the title but I think it’s a little bit early to say that. They’re certainly in the driving seat and just need to be humble and carry on performing like they did [on Wednesday night],” Gerrard told BT Sport.
Chelsea are looking to win their second Premier League title in three seasons.
