Antonio Conte has claimed that Tottenham have the advantage in the Premier League title race – because Spurs have an extra day’s rest before their next game.

The Blues kept alive their hopes of winning a domestic double this season when they beat their London rivals 4-2 in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley on Saturday.

Both clubs will now turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs, and Chelsea host Southampton on Tuesday night before Tottenham travel to Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

And Conte believes that having an extra day to recover from Saturday’s game will give Spurs a significant advantage in the title race.

Speaking to BBC Sport after Saturday’s game, Conte said: “We have to try to exploit the momentum. I think this week is crucial for us.

“They have the advantage. We have to play after two days and a half and Tottenham have one day more to rest.

“Sometimes it is difficult to understand this planning of the fixtures but we have to try to answer on the pitch.”

Chelsea head into Tuesday night’s game four points clear at the top of the table as they bid to bounce back from the disappointment of their 2-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend.

The west London side are the favourites to win the title despite having lost two of their last four top-flight games.
