Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink warns Chelsea, Man United: This striker is worth £100m
The former Chelsea striker believes Romelu Lukaku merits his price tag amid interest from the Premier League leaders
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Everton striker Romelu Lukaku merits his £100m price tag.
The Belgium international has established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading goal-scorers during his stay at Goodison Park.
Lukaku has scored 24 times in 32 games in the Premier League this season to help Everton put together a late charge for a Europa League spot.
Naturally the 24-year-old’s prolific form has prompted transfer speculation surrounding the ambitious striker’s future at Goodison Park.
Manchester United have been linked with a big-money move to sign Lukaku in the summer transfer window following Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury setback.
Chelsea, who sold Lukaku to Everton in a £27m deal in 2013, are reported to be interested in re-signing the Belgium international amid continued uncertainty about Diego Costa’s future.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ about Lukaku’s rumoured price tag, former Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker Hasselbaink said:
“He has gone to West Brom and Everton on loan and has done exceptionally well,” Hasselbaink said.
“Everton paid a lot of money for him. He has developed so well, players of his stature, you pay that kind of money [100m]. If you want a goal-scorer in your team of 24, you pay that money.”
Chelsea are sitting four points clear of their closest title rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
