Michael Owen: Why this player will score for Chelsea at Everton
The former Liverpool striker is backing Chelsea to beat Everton thanks to Diego Costa
Michael Owen is backing Diego Costa to fire Chelsea to victory over Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Premier League leaders eased to a comfortable 4-2 win against Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Eden Hazard, Gary Cahill and Diego Costa.
The controversial Spain striker scored twice in the second half to take his tally to 19 goals in 30 games in the 2016-17 Premier League season to help Antonio Conte’s side challenge for the title.
The former Atletico Madrid striker has been linked with a big-money move to China at the end of the campaign, while Everton star Romelu Lukaku has been touted as Costa’s potential replacement.
Writing in his BetVictor column about Chelsea’s trip to the blue half of Merseyside on Sunday afternoon, former Manchester United striker Owen backed Costa to fire the leaders to victory over Everton.
“This should be a cracking game with Everton looking to exorcise their 5-0 loss to the Champions-elect at the Bridge earlier in the season,” Owen told BetVictor.
“Only Liverpool have won at Goodison in the Premier League so far this season and it is their home form, eight successive wins, which has seen Everton challenge for a top-six spot.
“Diego Costa has a good record against Everton and he was back to his best against Southampton in midweek.
“Reports suggest Romelu Lukaku is earmarked as a replacement for Costa should he leave the Bridge for China in the summer and the outcome of the game could revolve around the two in-form strikers.”
Chelsea are sitting four points clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the title race.
