Ian Wright believes Liverpool will have gained vital confidence in the top-four race thanks to Sunday’s 1-0 win at West Bromwich Albion.

The Reds secured a rare Premier League victory at The Hawthorns thanks to Roberto Firmino’s close-range header at the end of the first half.

Indeed, the Brazilian forward managed to get on the end of Lucas Leiva’s flick-on before heading low past West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Liverpool are in third place in the Premier League table and six points ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

The Reds haven’t qualified for the Champions League since 2013-14 when Brendan Rodgers led Liverpool to a second-place finish.

Speaking to BBC Radio’s 606 podcast about Liverpool’s 1-0 win against West Brom, former Arsenal striker Wright said:

“Liverpool will be really buoyed by those two results. They’re the kind of results Liverpool fans were thinking they could slip up.

“Against a West Brom side that are very tough, Liverpool got through it.”
