Jamie Carragher predicts where Liverpool, Man United will finish
The former Liverpool defender isn't convinced Jurgen Klopp's side will finish in the Premier League's top four
Jamie Carragher has conceded that he is no longer confident that Liverpool will finish in the Premier League’s top four.
The Reds suffered a setback in their bid to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence under Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool had the chance to extend their lead to six points over Manchester United following the Red Devils’ 2-0 win at Burnley in Sunday’s early kick-off.
The 18-time English champions suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at Anfield after their former striker Christian Benteke scored either side of half-time.
Manchester United can move level on points with Liverpool with a game in hand if Mourinho’s side manage to beat Manchester City in the derby at The Etihad on Thursday night.
Speaking to Sky Sports about the top-four race after Liverpool’s setback against Palace, Carragher admitted he was no longer confident that Jurgen Klopp’s men will get the job done.
“I think Liverpool are in a big fight now. Manchester United, [Manchester] City, Arsenal are all in there.
“Before Sunday, I fancied it would be Man City and Liverpool to make those spots their own, especially with the fixtures. But that will give Manchester United a massive lift, especially with their result [a 2-0 win against Burnley].
“Liverpool’s result will give United and Arsenal massive belief that they can make the top four.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season.
