Jamie Carragher: This is what Liverpool are missing under Jurgen Klopp
The former Liverpool defender believes Jurgen Klopp's side lack pace in their starting line-up
Jamie Carragher believes there is a lack of pace in the Liverpool side.
The Reds struggled to breakdown a resilient Crystal Palace defence in the Premier League clash at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool made the breakthrough from a set-piece in the first half after Philippe Coutinho’s stunning free-kick in front of the Reds fans.
However, the club’s former striker Christian Benteke levelled before half-time with a close-range strike to silence the Anfield crown.
And the Belgium international netted a second-half to deliver a potentially fatal blow to Liverpool’s top-four bid.
Liverpool were unable to navigate a route back into the Premier League clash as Jurgen Klopp’s side succumbed to a 2-1 loss to Palace.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher explained what Klopp needs to add to his side following their latest Premier League setback.
“It’s disappointing. When a team comes to do a job on them, they find it very difficult; there aren’t a lot of options and they’ve got similar types of players,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“There’s no winger in the ranks without Sadio Mane, and even he comes inside. There’s nothing to stretch the play.
“I was critical in commentary about the lack of changes from the bench; give Palace something to think about it, try to stretch the back four. Changes were only made when it was 2-1 and that was too late.”
Manchester United can move level on points with Liverpool in the Premier League table with a game in hand.
