Jurgen Klopp spoke of his happiness for Simon Mignolet after the goalkeeper’s world-class saves helped Liverpool to win 2-1 at Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

The Belgium international was demoted to second-choice goalkeeper at the start of the 2016-17 season after Klopp signed Germany Under-21 international Loris Karius in a £4.7m deal from Mainz in the summer transfer transfer window last year.

Karius, though, failed to convince in the Liverpool goal and Mignolet was restored to the Liverpool first-team on a permanent basis at the start of December.

The former Sunderland number one hasn’t looked back since recovering his starting spot and his heroics at the Britannia Stadium won’t have done his chances of remaining as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper beyond the summer any harm.

Mignolet denied Stoke twice from close range to ensure Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in the second half.

Speaking to BBC Sport after Liverpool’s dramatic 2-1 win at Stoke, Klopp heaped praise on the much-maligned shot stopper.

“Everything was better. Simon Mignolet, what a save. The second was spectacular but both are good. I have no idea, that was genius and I am really happy for him. He saved our life [on Saturday],” Klopp said.
