Sadio Mane sends encouraging message to Liverpool fans about injury setback
The Liverpool forward vows to come back stronger from his knee operation
Sadio Mane has thanked Liverpool supporters for all their encouraging messages after the forward targeted a return from a knee operation.
The Senegal international broke the deadlock in the Merseyside derby last month before Mane suffered a knee injury in the second half of the 3-1 win against Everton.
The summer signing has been one of Jurgen Klopp’s key players in the 2016-17 campaign following a £34m move to Liverpool from Southampton in the Premier League.
Mane has scored 13 goals and has made five assists in 27 games in the Premier League in the current campaign to help Liverpool stay on course for a top-four bid.
The Liverpool forward, who moved to Southampton from Red Bull Salzburg, is thought to be targeting a return in pre-season following his operation.
And Mane vowed to come back strong from his injury as the Liverpool number 19 paid tribute to the supportive messages from the club’s fans.
“It’s great that I have received so many encouraging messages from fans around the world, particularly on social media,” Mane told Liverpool’s website.
“It makes me proud and gives me so much power that so many supporters of Liverpool FC and Senegal give me such great support.
“I’d like to say thank you to everyone. I will give my very best after yesterday’s successful surgery to be back on the pitch as soon as possible and be even better than before.”
Mane was one of seven signings in the summer transfer window.
