John Terry could improve the Liverpool defence if Jurgen Klopp signed the Chelsea captain in the summer, according to Dean Saunders.

The Blues skipper confirmed that he will leave the Premier League leaders at the end of the season after struggling to make an impression under Antonio Conte.

The Chelsea manager has only started Terry in four Premier League games this season, preferring Cesar Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill and David Luiz as his back three.

The west London side have the second-best defensive record in the Premier League behind their title rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have conceded 13 goals more than the Premier League leaders with Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip struggling to stay fit.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ about Terry’s next move in the summer transfer window, former Liverpool forward Saunders suggested that the Chelsea legend could be a good signing for the 18-time English champions.

“If the candle’s still burning inside him and he still wants to do it and he’s fit, he’s the best defender in the league still,” Saunders said.

“I’ve watched some of the defending that’s going on, week in, week out, and he’s getting in Liverpool’s team before (their current centre-halves).”
