Jose Mourinho says Manchester United are in “big trouble” amid a worsening injury crisis at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils lost centre-half Marcos Rojo to injury in the 23rd minute of their 2-1 extra-time win against Anderlecht on Thursday night.

Mourinho is already without England defenders Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, which has left Eric Bailly as their only recognised fit centre-half.

The home side suffered a further blow when their leading goal-scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic picked up a serious knee injury at the end of normal time in the Europa League quarter-final.

Mourinho revealed in his post-match interview that the prognosis for both Ibrahimovic and Rojo was “negative” ahead of their top-four push in the final weeks of the season.

Speaking to the media ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Burnley on Sunday, Mourinho admitted that the 20-time English champions are facing a real headache following their latest injury setbacks.

“We are in trouble,” Mourinho said. “We are in trouble.

“In this moment, Eric Bailly played six matches in a row, and we lost Marcos Rojo, we don’t have Jones or Smalling, we are in trouble and now we lose Zlatan too.

“But in attack, we have options and [Wayne] Rooney is coming, and let’s see if Mata can also return before the end of the season, let’s see what happens.”
