Ander Herrera has told his Manchester United team-mates that he is expecting to play in the Champions League next season.

Herrera helped the Red Devils give their top-four hopes a much-needed boost on Sunday when he was named man of the match in Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford.

That victory left Jose Mourinho’s men in fifth place in the Premier League table, but the Red Devils know that they will move level on points with third placed Liverpool if they win their two games in hand.

Manchester United are also in with a chance of securing a place in next season’s Champions League by winning the Europa League this term.

And Herrera has told the Red Devils that he is fully expecting to play in Europe’s elite club competition next season.

“The next month and a half is the most important time of my career,” Herrera told United Review. “That is the way I think and that is the way I see football.

“Also, when everyone is telling you you’re having a great season, you’re having a very good game, you’re playing very well, I don’t think it is good for yourself so I don’t listen too much.

“I want to be focused on what is coming and that is very important. I want to play in the Champions League next season.”
