Insider’s response when asked whether Real Madrid want to sign Man United star
Guillem Balgue confirms Real Madrid are eager to sign Manchester United number one David De Gea
Real Madrid are desperate to sign Manchester United number one David De Gea, according to Guillem Balague.
The Manchester United goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a return to Spain throughout the 2016-17 season, despite signing a new long-term contract in September 2015.
De Gea was one of Manchester United’s standout performers in a goalless draw with Manchester City in the derby at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday night to keep their top-four bid alive.
The 24-year-old was on a brink of a move to Real Madrid in the 2015 summer transfer window before the shot stopper’s proposed transfer to los Blancos fell through on deadline day.
Manchester United are facing a battle to secure a return to the Champions League as the Red Devils look to overhaul Liverpool and Manchester City in the top four.
Asked about Real Madrid’s interest in De Gea during an interview on Sky Sports, La Liga expert Balague said:
“Do Real Madrid want De Gea? You bet they do,” Balague said. “What surprises me, however, is why a club like Manchester United – that have no need to sell him – would be prepared to let him leave. I’m sensing a hidden agenda.”
De Gea moved to Manchester United in a £17m deal from Atletico Madrid back in 2011.
