Gary Neville reveals Luke Shaw’s biggest Man United problem
The Manchester United legend discusses Luke Shaw's biggest issue in his Old Trafford career so far
Gary Neville believes keeping fit has been Luke Shaw’s biggest problem in Manchester United career so far.
The Red Devils defender is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford after having been called out by his manager Jose Mourinho regularly during the 2016-17 season.
Shaw has only made seven appearances in the Premier League this season, although the England left-back has made a further two appearances from the bench.
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in the hunt for a Champions League spot.
Shaw played his part in securing a point for the Red Devils mid-week after his deflected strike won a penalty which led to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s equaliser from the penalty spot.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ about Shaw and his issues at Manchester United so far, Neville offered some telling insight:
“Fitness has been his biggest problem in terms of getting fit. He is the type of player that needs 10 or 15 games on the run to get to his fighting weight in terms of being able to sprint forward throughout a game,” Neville said.
“He very rarely gets that and that is his big issue.”
Manchester United signed Shaw in a £27m deal from Southampton back in the 2014 summer transfer window.
