Jose Mourinho has bemoaned Manchester United’s demanding fixture schedule ahead of the visit of Chelsea next weekend.

The Red Devils are looking to make a belated charge to secure a top-four finish next season ahead of their bitter rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

Manchester United moved to within four points of Pep Guardiola’s side thanks to a 3-0 win against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic broke the deadlock with his 17th goal of the Premier League campaign before efforts from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marcus Rashford.

The Red Devils will make the trip to Belgium in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final on Thursday night in search of European glory.

Manchester United will have two days to recover before Mourinho welcomes his former employers Chelsea to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

However, the Red Devils boss pointed out that Antonio Conte’s side will have a week prepare for their trip to Old Trafford without distractions, while Manchester United have European commitments to consider.

“We know Chelsea are on holiday for the next couple of days and the next match is against us,” Mourinho said speaking at his post-match media conference.

“We know that we go to Brussels for the Europa League [on Thursday] and it’s more difficult for us.”
