Juan Mata sends Man United warning to Man City
Juan Mata is hoping to see Manchester United move into the top four at the expense of Manchester City on Thursday
Juan Mata has warned Manchester City that Manchester United are out to catch them in the race for the top four ahead of Thursday’s derby showdown.
Manchester United have been in good form in recent weeks and back to back 2-0 Premier League wins over Chelsea and Burnley have lifted Jose Mourinho’s men to within one point of fourth-placed Manchester City ahead of this week’s clash at The Etihad.
Mata is currently sidelined with a groin injury but will have been keeping a close eye on Manchester United’s fortunes after the Red Devils secured their spot in the Europa League semi-finals against Celta Vigo last week.
And Mata is clearly looking forward to seeing whether the Red Devils can move into the top four on Thursday with victory against Pep Guardiola’s men at The Etihad.
Writing in his personal blog, Mata said: “There’s no truce in the calendar and, this very Thursday, there’s one of those games that every player likes to play: the Manchester derby.
“Away this time, but we know that, with the top of the table so tight, this is another big chance to make an important step in our fight and keep climbing.
“I hope you can enjoy a great game and we can get the three points!”
Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season.
