Pundit: This Man United star reminds me of Cristiano Ronaldo, he’s got unbelievable skill
The former Manchester United midfielder talks up Marcus Rashford, likening the striker to Cristiano Ronaldo
Lee Sharpe is convinced Marcus Rashford shares similarities with Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
The England international has endured a mixed season season in the Manchester United first team under Jose Mourinho despite managing to find the net 11 times.
Louis van Gaal gave Rashford the chance to shine in the Manchester United starting line-up and the teenager finished in the 2015-16 season with eight goals in 18 appearances.
The teenager has popped up with some important goals in recent weeks, including the opener in a 2-0 win against leaders Chelsea before scoring the winner in their Europa League quarter-final.
Rashford has a long way to go to equal Ronaldo’s 118 goals for Manchester United before the Portugal captain moved to La Liga giants Real Madrid in a world-record deal in 2009.
Former Manchester United midfielder Sharpe claimed that Rashford has incredible skill like Ronaldo and backed the England star to emulate the Portugal legend at Old Trafford.
“The last time I was this excited about a United youngster was, well, you can go right back to Paul Scholes and David Beckham for that,” said Sharpe, speaking exclusively to 888sport.
“As for Ronaldo I can see the similarities. Everybody goes on about his pace but he’s also got unbelievable feet for someone so quick.
“He’s not small either and I like how his manager has coaxed him in gently and not put all the responsibility onto him straight away. He’s looking absolutely fantastic and now that he’s back playing in his favourite position of centre-forward he’s started to score goals as well.
“So I can see similarities and if he becomes half the player Ronaldo is then we’re all in for a delight.”
Manchester United will take on Celta Vigo in the Europa League semi-finals.
