Michael Owen: I disagree with people who say this about Man United star
Michael Owen says there is space for both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford at Manchester United
Michael Owen has insisted that there is a place for both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford at Manchester United next season.
The 19-year-old striker has been in sublime form for the Red Devils in recent weeks and has helped to fire Manchester United to victories over both Chelsea and Anderlecht.
Ibrahimovic, meanwhile, has been a regular fixture in the Manchester United team this season and has scored 28 goals in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s men.
The Swedish striker suffered a suspected knee injury on Thursday night against Anderlecht and it remains to be seen whether he will stay at Manchester United beyond the summer.
However, former Red Devils striker Owen feels that there is a place for both players at Old Trafford under Mourinho next season after Rashford’s extra-time winner against Anderlecht.
Owen told BT Sport on Thursday night: “Ibrahimovic is a very different proposition to Rashford.
“What I disagree with is everybody asking where the goals are going to come from if Ibra’s not fit.
“He’s played virtually every minute of every game. He never comes off and has been fit all the time, which is brilliant for somebody of his age.
“However, there are alternatives and Rashford has shown it every time he’s come in, in that centre-forward role.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a trip to Burnley as they look to keep their bid for a top-four finish on track.
