Nemanja Vidic has praised summer signing Eric Bailly as a good communicator in the Manchester United defence.

The Ivory Coast international was the first of Jose Mourinho’s four summer signings following the Portuguese coach’s appointment at the end of the 2015-16 season.

Bailly moved to Manchester United in a £30m deal from La Liga side Villarreal in the 2016 summer transfer window to bolster Mourinho’s defence.

The Red Devils boss has struggled with an injury crisis at the back throughout the campaign which has led to a number of different centre-half combinations.

Bailly is currently partnering Marcos Rojo in the heart of Mourinho’s defence with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones still sidelined with injury.

Manchester United will make the trip to Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday night before a home clash against Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Speaking to Manchester United’s website about Mourinho’s summer signing Bailly, the club’s former captain Vidic said:

“Eric started very well. With Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and him, those three players can all become good partners and learn from each other. If they have good communication they can create a good partnership.

“The most important thing for defenders on the pitch is to have good communication and to speak about the problems. They have talent and individual qualities, but they have to put them all together.

“They have space for improvement but the team has had a few injuries, so it’s not easy for them.”
