Paul Merson has questioned whether Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will win the Premier League title again.

The Red Devils boss took over the reins at Old Trafford back in May last year but the Portuguese coach has failed to transform Manchester United into title winners this season.

Indeed, Mourinho has made steady but unspectacular progress at the 20-time English champions following eight draws at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

The 53-year-old has a point to prove after Chelsea sacked their legendary manager less than eight months after Mourinho led the Blues to the top-flight crown in 2014-15.

Manchester United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and 18 points adrift of current leaders Chelsea ahead of their clash at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson believes Mourinho’s Manchester United side are nowhere near challenging Antonio Conte’s impressive Chelsea outfit for the title.

“You have to wonder if Jose Mourinho will ever win the Premier League again,” Merson told the Daily Star.

“Manchester United play Chelsea on Sunday and they look miles behind the team that’s going to win it this year.”
