Paul Scholes has told Jose Mourinho not to prioritise winning the Europa League ahead of a top-four finish this season.

The Red Devils booked their place in the semi-finals of the Europa League on Thursday night with a 2-1 extra-time win over Anderlecht at Old Trafford.

Manchester United will take on Spanish side Celta Vigo in the last four of Europe’s second tier club competition as they look to win the Europa League and secure a route into next season’s Champions League.

Mourinho’s men are also still chasing a top-four finish in the Premier League, with the Red Devils currently fifth in the table as they look to move up the table before the season is out.

And former Manchester United midfielder Scholes feels that the Red Devils should not be prioritising either of the competitions at this stage of the season.

Speaking on BT Sport on Thursday night, Scholes said: “I don’t Mourinho has been prioritising and he has to go for both (top four and the Europa League).

“He’s got a squad of 20 players and the bench is still strong.”
