Paul Scholes: I love this Man United player, he doesn’t enough credit
Paul Scholes discusses why he is such a big admirer of veteran Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick
Paul Scholes has heaped praise on Michael Carrick and claims that the veteran midfielder does not get the credit he deserves.
The midfielder has been a consistent performer whenever called upon by Jose Mourinho this season and has added some much-needed experience to Manchester United’s midfield.
Mourinho was quick to tie Carrick down to a new one-year contract soon after his appointment as Manchester United manager last year.
However, the former Spurs midfielder’s future continues to be a source of speculation, with it not clear whether Manchester United will offer him a new deal ahead of next season.
The 35-year-old has made 16 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils so far this season.
And Scholes, who played alongside Carrick for Manchester United, is a huge admirer of the veteran midfielder.
Scholes told BT Sport on Thursday night: “He’s a top player, Michael.
“He’s probably not the flashiest of players but he was a player you could always rely on. It seemed he was always in the right place, he was always covering if you went forward.
“He probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves for the quality that he has. He’s a great passer of the ball and creates loads of chances – and he’s a good finisher as well when he gets up there.”
Carrick will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils take on Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
