Paul Scholes: This top Man United player can replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Paul Scholes believes Marcus Rashford is capable of replacing Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Paul Scholes is confident that Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford fill Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s void.
The former Sweden international picked up what looked like a serious injury in the second half of Manchester United’s 2-1 extra-time win against Anderlecht on Thursday night.
Rashford started the second leg on the left wing but Jose Mourinho shuffled the England international into a centre-forward role in extra time at Old Trafford.
And the 19-year-old scored an 107th-minute winner to book Manchester United’s place in the semi-final draw.
Rashford has scored 11 times in 47 games in all competitions for the 20-time English champions in the 2016-17 season under Louis van Gaal’s successor Mourinho.
The Manchester United teenager has struggled to perform under the Dutchman’s replacement in the current campaign and has been forced to contend with a loss of form.
Speaking to BT Sport about how Manchester United can cope without Ibrahimovic, Scholes said:
“If Zlatan does miss out in these next few weeks, we know we’ve got a top player [in Rashford] who can come in and replace him.”
Ibrahimovic has scored 28 times in all competitions in his first season in English football.
