Rio Ferdinand has warned Jose Mourinho against resting Manchester United players between now and the end of the season.

The Red Devils are through to the Europa League semi-finals, where they will face Celta Vigo next month, and are also still battling for a place in the top four in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho is currently preparing his team for their crunch derby showdown with Manchester City at The Etihad on Thursday night knowing that a win would move them above their rivals and into the top four.

And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand wants to see Mourinho set his team up to win each and every remaining game this season rather than prioritise one competition over another.

Speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show, Ferdinand said: “They rested players against Anderlecht in the Europa League but now they’ve got to put everyone out there, the best players for each game, to go and win.”

Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup last season before Mourinho was drafted in as Louis van Gaal’s successor at Old Trafford.
