Jose Mourinho has admitted that Manchester United’s summer transfer plans have been affected by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s knee injury.

The veteran forward was ruled out of action for the rest of the season after suffering knee ligament damage in the Europa League win over Anderlecht earlier this month.

It remains to be seen whether Ibrahimovic will stay on at Manchester United beyond the summer transfer window, as his original deal last summer was for one year with the option for a further 12 months.

Manchester United are bound to be linked with some of Europe’s top players as the summer transfer window draws ever nearer.

And Mourinho has hinted that he may have to prioritise attacking reinforcements this summer after the news of Ibrahimovic’s injury setback.

Asked whether his transfer plans had now changed, Mourinho told a news conference on Wednesday: “Yes. Yes.

“Because if I don’t have the players for a long period of time, obviously it affects.”

Manchester United have been linked with big-money moves for the likes of Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann and Everton forward Romelu Lukaku in recent weeks.

Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has also been touted as a possible target for Mourinho this summer.
