Guillem Balague believes Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will eventually complete a move to Real Madrid.

The Spain international has been heavily linked with a switch to los Blancos over the past three seasons at Old Trafford, although Manchester United have managed to keep the shot stopper.

De Gea was on the brink of completing a reported £25m move to Real Madrid back in the 2015 summer transfer window before a move fell through on La Liga’s deadline day.

Manchester United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and risk missing out on a place in next season’s Champions League competition, which Real Madrid won last term.

Speculation continues to persist surrounding De Gea’s future, and Mourinho left the former Atletico Madrid man out of two games earlier this term amid the ongoing transfer rumours.

Speaking to Sky Sports about De Gea, La Liga expert Balague suggested that De Gea’s proposed move to Real Madrid could come to fruition.

“I was surprised recently to see he had been left out of squads,” Balague said.

“My feeling is that De Gea could, very soon, be facing one of those ‘no-choice’ situations, the net result of which will leave Real Madrid having to pay a huge amount of money to United to secure his services.

“The outcome of that situation might well be a return to his place of birth for Spain’s, and arguably the world’s, current number one goalkeeper, whether De Gea likes it or not.”
