Guillem Balague has made the sensational claim that Manchester United could spent £400m on new signings in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are still battling for a top-four spot after Jose Mourinho’s side played out a goalless draw with bitter rivals Manchester City in the derby on Thursday night.

Manchester United have endured a mixed first season under Mourinho despite Louis van Gaal’s successor spending over £150m on new signings in the 2016 summer transfer window.

The Portuguese coach recruited Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in £30m deals from Villarreal and Borussia Dortmind, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic completed a free transfer from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester United broke the world record transfer fee when France midfielder Paul Pogba completed a move to Old Trafford in an £89m deal from Serie A champions Juventus back in August.

However, La Liga expert Balague has claimed that he has been told that Manchester United could spend a staggering £400m on new signings at the end of the 2016-17 season.

“I am reliably informed that Manchester United are willing to spend in the region of £300m to £400m this summer to achieve what they want. They could spend more if necessary,” Balague told Sky Sports.
