Michael Owen sends warning to Man United about Antoine Griezmann
Michael Owen questions where Antoine Griezmann would play if Manchester United signed the striker
Michael Owen has questioned how Jose Mourinho would manage to accommodate Antoine Griezmann in the Manchester United side.
The France international has been regularly linked with a move to the 20-time English champions in the summer transfer window.
Griezmann has established himself as one of Europe’s leading goal-scorers under Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone at Vicente Calderon.
The Independent reported in March that Manchester United officials are confident that a deal has been agreed in principle to sign Griezmann.
However, the latest reports suggest that Griezmann could move to Atletico’s bitter rivals Real Madrid or remain at los Rojiblancos.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored 17 goals in 30 appearances in the Premier League in the 2016-17 season in the striker’s first season in England.
Speaking to BT Sport about Griezmann and Manchester United signing a striker in the summer transfer window, Owen said: “I think they’ve got enough options.
“Everyone is mentioning Antoine Griezmann but then what? Who’s going to play? You can’t pay tens of millions… and then what? You can have too many great players.
“I think they’ve got a good balance at the moment but they shouldn’t be complacent – they still have to look at the future and look who’s about because obviously Zlatan Ibrahimovic isn’t going to be around forever.”
Manchester United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season.
The Red Devils will host Chelsea in their next top-flight fixture at Old Trafford on Sunday.
