Owen Hargreaves opens up about reported Man United target
Owen Hargreaves has described Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembele as a future Ballon d'Or winner amid Man United link
Owen Hargreaves believes Manchester United are chasing a future Ballon d’Or winner in the shape of Borussia Dortmund striker Ousmane Dembele.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move to sign the Belgium international in the summer transfer window as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his attacking options.
The 19-year-old has scored eight goals in 40 appearances in all competitions this season for Dortmund to underline his reputation as an exciting European talent.
Dembele opted to move to Dortmund in a £13m deal from Ligue 1 side Rennes last summer ahead of reported interest from the Premier League in the promising forward.
Speaking to BT Sport about the Dortmund teenager ahead of the clash between Monaco and the Bundesliga outfit in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final, former Manchester United midfielder Hargreaves said: “I think he has the potential [to win the Ballon d’Or]. I think he’s going to be there.
“He has had a remarkable season for Dortmund already – he’s had 17 assists in all competitions – and he’s been devastating.
“He’s magnificent with both feet and so quick, so powerful. Eventually, he’s going to be in that Ballon d’Or conversation
“He’s that good a player. Everybody in Germany has been impressed by how talented a player he is at the stage of his career.”
Manchester United are in fifth place in the Premier League table and four points behind Manchester City in the Champions League spots.
The Red Devils signed four players in last summer’s transfer window.
