Guillem Balague provides Antoine Griezmann transfer update amid Man United link
The La Liga expert explains why Real Madrid's interest could scupper Manchester United's deal to sign Antoine Griezmann
Guillem Balague has warned Manchester United that Real Madrid’s interest in Antoine Griezmann could block a potential move to the Premier League.
The France international has been heavily linked with a move to the Red Devils from Champions League runner-up Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.
The Independent reported last month that Manchester United officials were confident that a deal has been agreed in principle with more details to iron out.
Griezmann has scored 15 times and has made seven assists in 30 appearances in La Liga this season to help Diego Simeone’s side to challenge for a top-four spot.
Real Madrid have emerged as a contenders to sign the 27-year-old forward in the summer transfer window with the forward’s compatriot Zinedine Zidane interested in Griezmann.
Writing in his Sky Sports column, Balague explained why Real Madrid’s interest could scupper Manchester United’s efforts to sign Griezmann.
“The situation is as follows, his people have told Atletico that he’s staying next season. He still feels he can give more to the club, they’ve got a new stadium and he can keep growing there,” Balague said.
“Atletico want to give him a new contract with more money and a new buy-out clause of 100m euros. Barcelona, Real, Manchester City and Manchester United have all enquired for Griezmann, but he’s agreed nothing with anybody.
“Real are trying to go for him in 2018, which will make it difficult for any Premier League club to try and get him.”
Manchester United signed Griezmann’s France team-mate Paul Pogba in a world-record deal last summer.
