Graeme Souness: Tottenham star will become a top player if midfielder doesn’t listen to me
The former Liverpool captain believes Dele Alli will become a top player if the Spurs midfielder ignores the hype
Graeme Souness believes Dele Alli is on course to become a world-class player as long as the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder ignores the hype around the England star.
Alli scored in Tottenham’s 4-0 win against Watford in the London derby at White Hart Lane in the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday afternoon.
The Tottenham midfielder has netted 14 goals and has made five assists in 30 games in the top-flight campaign to help Spurs challenge Chelsea for the title.
Alli has now scored more goals than Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes at the age of 21 in the Premier League.
Indeed, the England international has netted 24 goals in the Premier League since his 5m move to Spurs from League One side MK Dons in the 2015 summer transfer window.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Alli’s potential, former Liverpool captain Souness had some advice for the reigning PFA young player of the year.
“He is a player who has got goals from midfield. He has created chances for his team-mates,” Souness said.
“Providing he doesn’t start to believe what people like I say and keeps his feet on the ground, he’s got a chance of being a star.”
Tottenham will host Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
