Jamie Carragher sends warning to Tottenham ahead of Chelsea clash
The former Liverpool defender warns Tottenham that winning silverware is a must under Mauricio Pochettino
Jamie Carragher has warned Mauricio Pochettino that Tottenham Hotspur need to win a trophy to underline their growth under the Argentinian coach.
Spurs are the Premier League’s form team as the north London side moved to within four points of leaders Chelsea with six games to go.
Tottenham were 4-0 winners against Bournemouth in the Premier League’s early kick-off at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea failed to restore their seven-point cushion after a 2-0 defeat by Manchester United in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
Tottenham will take on their title rivals in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday evening.
Speaking to Monday Night Football about Tottenham’s progress under Pochettino in recent seasons, former Liverpool defender Carragher said:
“We are thinking about the league but if I’m in Tottenham’s shoes, this week is all about the FA Cup and the chance for this team to get a trophy.
“This team is too good not to win things. We have watched them for two or three years and we love watching them. We want to see them do well.
“They’ve got young English players and for the manager, it would be a travesty in two or three years’ time if this team haven’t won something. They have to go and win that FA Cup.”
Tottenham lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge back in November after goals from Pedro Rodriguez and Victor Moses cancelled out Christian Eriksen’s first-half opener.
Chelsea, though, lost 2-0 to the north London side in January after Dele Alli scored either side of half-time at White Hart Lane.
