Michael Owen states his prediction for Tottenham v Arsenal
The former Liverpool striker is backing Tottenham Hotspur to come out on top against Arsenal in Sunday's derby
Michael Owen is confident that Tottenham Hotspur will edge to victory over Arsenal in Sunday’s north London derby at White Hart Lane.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are looking to keep the pressure on Premier League Chelsea as the title race reaches its conclusion with five games to go.
The Blues extended their lead to seven points on Tuesday night thanks to a 4-2 victory over Southampton at Stamford Bridge, before Tottenham moved back to within four points of Antonio Conte’s side after Christian Eriksen’s late strike sealed a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace.
Tottenham played out a 1-1 draw with Arsenal at The Emirates back in November when England international Harry Kane cancelled out Kevin Wimmer’s own goal in the derby.
Writing in his BetVictor column about the derby clash between Arsenal and Tottenham, Owen backed Pochettino’s men to beat their rivals and keep the pressure on Chelsea.
“Spurs bounced back from their FA Cup semi-final defeat with a vital win at Palace midweek and I think they will keep the points in the north London derby,” Owen said.
“Arsenal have only failed to find the back of the Spurs net once in their last 23 visits to the Lane in all competitions and I feel they will need to score at least twice to get something out of Sunday’s game. That may be beyond them.”
Tottenham finished in third place in the Premier League table last season and a point behind Arsenal.
