Jurgen Klopp: This Liverpool star was crucial to our win at West Brom
Jurgen Klopp heaps praise on Simon Mignolet after Liverpool's 1-0 win at West Brom on Sunday
Jurgen Klopp singled out Simon Mignolet for special praise after the goalkeeper helped Liverpool seal a 1-0 win at West Brom on Sunday.
Roberto Firmino scored the only goal of the game when he headed home on the stroke of half-time to hand Klopp’s men the three points and boost their hopes of sealing a top-four finish.
Mignolet was not called into action too many times but delivered when he was – and the Belgian made a good save from Matt Phillips in the second half.
And Klopp was pleased with the Belgium international’s performance after watching his team take a step closer towards Champions League qualification.
Speaking at his post-match news conference at The Hawthorns, Klopp said: “He made an important save [from Phillips with 10 minutes remaining] and in the end, it doesn’t look that spectacular, but he was really present around the set-pieces.
“I think three, four, five fists away, which was really good, I have to say. He was really lively, front-footed, all that stuff. Very important again.”
Liverpool return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a home clash against Crystal Palace.
The Reds are currently third in the table as they chase a top-four finish in Klopp’s first full season in charge at the club.
