Danny Mills believes that Liverpool need three or four signings in the key positions this summer if they want to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

The Reds have been in decent form in recent weeks during Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge at Anfield but Liverpool still face a battle to secure a top-four finish this season.

Klopp’s side are currently third in the table as they chase Champions League qualification but there have been questions raised about the Merseyside outfit’s squad depth in recent months.

The German manager is bound to already be thinking about the forthcoming summer transfer window and the players he could sign to strengthen his squad and prepare Liverpool for a potential return to the Champions League.

And former defender Mills feels that the Reds are in need of a number of signings in key positions to strengthen the spine of the squad.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ on Thursday, Mills said: “I still think they need an out-and-out centre forward in that side.

“In midfield they’ve got a lot of players, so I don’t think that’s a huge problem.

“Defensively they might want to add one or two players – certainly a recognised left-back because James Milner can’t carry on doing that role out of position. And then there’s the goalkeeper, does he strengthen or does he not?

“Like most clubs, they need three or four players to add quality to the first 11.”
