Gary Neville: This is where Liverpool are not good enough
Gary Neville warns Liverpool that they will have to strengthen their defence in the summer transfer window
Gary Neville has warned Liverpool that they will have to strengthen their defensive options over the summer if they want to have any hope of challenging for the title next season.
The Reds are currently chasing Champions League qualification as they bid to try and secure a top-four finish in Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge at Anfield.
Liverpool are third in the table and are the Premier League’s top scorers – but have also conceded more goals than any other team in the current top six.
And former Manchester United defender Neville has warned that Liverpool will have to bolster their defensive options if they want to have any hope of winning major honours next season.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Neville said: “They’re not good enough defensively.
“They haven’t been good enough for years defensively and that’s been one of the reasons why potentially they haven’t got closer to winning the league, which they could have done, even this season.”
Liverpool are currently preparing for their home Premier League clash against Bournemouth at Anfield on Wednesday night as they bid to keep their top-four bid on track.
