Jamie Carragher: This is the difference between Liverpool and Tottenham
Jamie Carragher compares Liverpool to Tottenham and says Spurs' defence is far stronger
Jamie Carragher says Tottenham’s strong defence is what sets them apart from Liverpool this season.
Spurs have been in fine form in recent weeks and the Lilywhites are currently Chelsea’s closest challengers in the Premier League table after cutting the gap to the Blues down to seven points last weekend.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are third in the table as they bid to continue their push for Champions League qualification in Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge at the club.
Tottenham have conceded 16 goals less than Liverpool this season and currently lead the Reds by three points in the Premier League table.
And former Liverpool star Carragher feels that Tottenham’s brilliant defence is what sets them apart from his old club.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Carragher said: “If Liverpool can fix their defence then it does give them a great chance going forward over the next few years.
“That’s what the difference between Liverpool and Tottenham is. That’s why Spurs have the edge on Liverpool – not because they’ve got Dele Alli or Harry Kane, because Liverpool get goals.
“It’s because they’ve got Hugo Lloris, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.”
Liverpool are currently gearing up for their Premier League home clash against Bournemouth on Wednesday night, while Tottenham are preparing to take on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
