Jamie Carragher: The three signings Liverpool must make this summer
Jamie Carragher says Liverpool should look to bring in a new goalkeeper, left-back and centre-back this summer
Jamie Carragher says Liverpool should look to bring in a new goalkeeper, left-back and centre-back in the summer transfer window.
The Reds are currently looking to break back into the top four this season and secure their place in the Champions League for next term.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have not had to contend with the rigours of European football this season after the Reds ended up eighth in the table last season.
However, the Merseyside outfit look on course to qualify for Europe next season and will have to play a host more games.
Liverpool have been criticised for their inconsistent defending this season, with the Reds having conceded more goals than any other team in the top six.
And Carragher believes that the three main defensive positions should be the priority for Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Carragher said: “There’s no doubt that the problem for Liverpool is defending, not at the other end of the pitch.
“For me, I’d be looking to bring a goalkeeper, a left-back and a centre-back in this summer.
“They need a centre-back because [Matip and Lovren] are never fit. Klavan is not a bad player but he plays too much. You want your third-choice centre-back playing maybe 10-15 games. He’s probably going to end up playing 40 games this season.”
Liverpool are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Bournemouth at Anfield on Wednesday night as they look to take a step closer towards Champions League qualification.
