Michael Owen is backing Liverpool to keep their bid for a top-four finish in the Premier League on track by beating Bournemouth at Anfield on Wednesday night.

The Reds head into the game fresh from their impressive 3-1 win over Everton in Saturday’s Merseyside derby clash as they look to try and take another step towards Champions League qualification.

Liverpool are currently third in the table as they bid to secure a route into Europe’s elite club competition in Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge at Anfield.

And former Reds striker Owen is not expecting Liverpool to have any problems in beating Eddie Howe’s visitors to Anfield on Wednesday night.

Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “As we thought, Liverpool were far too good for neighbours Everton at the weekend and they will be keen to avenge their 4-3 loss at Bournemouth earlier in the season when they led 3-1 with just fifteen minutes to play.

“I do not expect to see any slip-up from Jurgen Klopp’s side against the Cherries.”

Liverpool are aiming to break back into the Champions League this season after the Reds finished eighth last term and without a trophy.

Klopp saw his Liverpool side be knocked out of all cup competitions earlier in the season as they switched their focus purely back to the Premier League and finishing as high as possible.
