Jamie Redknapp believes that Liverpool are the heavy favourites to beat Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday – especially in the absence of Mamadou Sakho for the Eagles.

The French defender has been shipped out on loan to the London club this season after being deemed surplus to requirements by Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Sakho has been a solid performer at the back for the Reds in recent weeks to help Sam Allardyce’s men fight for Premier League survival.

However, the defender will not be able to feature against his parent club on Merseyside this weekend in the Premier League showdown at Anfield.

And former Liverpool star Redknapp believes that will be a big advantage for Klopp’s men this weekend.

Redknapp wrote in his column for Sky Sports: “The real star for Big Sam has been Mamadou Sakho. He has transformed that defence, so it’s a real blow that he won’t be able to play for them against his parent club.

“I’m sure Sakho would have loved to play, especially as there’s clearly no love lost between him and Jurgen Klopp, but I think his absence could make all the difference in this game.

“Liverpool’s movement up front will cause problems, and now Palace are in a position where someone who might be lacking that little bit of confidence will have to start in Sakho’s place.”
