Ray Wilkins has backed the Manchester derby to finish in a stalemate on Thursday night.

Manchester United gave their top-four prospects a boost on Sunday afternoon thanks to a 2-0 win against Burnley at Turf Moor.

France international Anthony Martial broke the deadlock before Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney extended the visitors’ lead.

Jose Mourinho’s afternoon got even better when Liverpool suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Manchester City lost 2-1 in extra-time to Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final to deliver a blow the morale of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Manchester United suffered a 2-1 loss to the Citizens in the derby meeting at the start of the 2016-17 Premier League season.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ about the Manchester derby on Thursday night, Wilkins backed the two rivals to settle for a point at The Etihad.

“Manchester United have got a 23-game unbeaten Premier League run going in this moment in time,” Wilkins said.

“A lot of those have been draws and I can see this one finishing exactly the same as well.”
