Gary Neville delivers huge verdict on Man City v Man United
Gary Neville says the Manchester derby has taken on incredible significance in the top-four race
Gary Neville has highlighted that the Manchester derby has taken “incredible significance” in the top-four race.
Manchester United will make the short trip across the city to take on Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium looking to hoist themselves above the Citizens in the table.
Manchester City are in third place in the Premier League table and a point ahead of Manchester United in the race to secure a place in next season’s Champions League competition.
The Red Devils were 2-0 winners against Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney in the first half at the promoted side.
Manchester City, meanwhile, lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon to leave Pep Guardiola without any silverware in his first seasons at The Etihad.
Speaking to Sky Sports about the upcoming Manchester derby, Neville admitted that he is intrigued to see Jose Mourinho’s approach to the critical Premier League clash.
“The Manchester derby now takes on incredible significance. If United are to win, they could go above City. This month is absolutely critical,” Neville said.
“It’s a huge test on Thursday. City are a really good side and can pick you apart. It will be interesting to see what Jose does. He usually has a tactic going into a big game and it will be interesting to see how he adapts and how he changes it.”
