Michael Owen praised Marcus Rashford for the teenager’s contribution in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Red Devils needed extra-time to get past the Belgian outfit at Old Trafford but successfully booked their place in the semi-finals thanks to goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Rashford to wrap up a 3-2 aggregate win.

The 19-year-old, fresh from his sparkling display against Chelsea in the Premier League last weekend, was heavily involved in the build-up to Mkhitaryan’s opener and was in fine form all night.

The teenager picked up Paul Pogba’s long-range pass and the ball eventually made it’s way to Mkhitaryan, who drilled home from close range in the 10th minute.

However, the visitors soon levelled the tie in the 31st minute when Sofiane Hanni equalised at Old Trafford, before Rashford’s striker in the second half of extra-time.

Former Manchester United striker Owen was full of praise for Rashford for his involvement in Mkhitaryan’s opener in the first half.

Speaking during BT Sport‘s coverage of the game, Owen said: “It was brilliant and was all about Rashford’s pace.

“When you’re a midfield player you must dream of playing with someone like Rashford. It was a perfect start for Manchester United.”
