Michael Owen has claimed that Manchester United’s performance in their 2-0 win over Chelsea was the best the Red Devils have played since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

The Red Devils were in superb form against the Premier League leaders as they thoroughly outplayed Antonio Conte’s men at Old Trafford.

Goals from Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera secured the three points for the home side as Jose Mourinho’s men took a step closer towards a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Manchester United have struggled to produce consistent performances in the Premier League since Ferguson called time on his glittering career at Old Trafford in the summer of 2013 after guiding his side to the title.

And Owen feels that last weekend’s win was the best performance Manchester United have produced in many years.

Speaking on BT Sport, Owen said: “That was the best Manchester United have played for ages, you could say for a couple of years – even three years.

“They had loads of energy, loads of pace, and it’s what Manchester United have been forever. It’s always been about pace.”
