Rio Ferdinand: What I really think about Eric Bailly at Man United
Rio Ferdinand has his say on defender Eric Bailly's first season at Manchester United
Rio Ferdinand is backing Eric Bailly to develop into a top defender at Manchester United.
The Ivorian has been a regular fixture in the Manchester United first team since his arrival at the club from Villarreal last summer.
Bailly has made 18 Premier League appearances for Jose Mourinho’s men so far this season as the Red Devils look to challenge for a Champions League qualification spot.
He has also featured seven times in the Europa League and will be expecting to start when Manchester United take on Anderlecht in the first leg of their quarter-final clash on Thursday night.
Ferdinand has been very impressed by what he has seen from Bailly so far this season and is tipping the Ivory Coast international to develop into a key player at Old Trafford in the seasons to come.
Speaking to Sport360, Ferdinand said: “He’s aggressive, he’s always on the front foot trying to win the first ball.
“That’s great, you’ve just got to pick your moments and making sure you don’t leave yourself exposed.
“He’s had a decent first season, in which a few injuries have set him back a little bit.
“He’s very athletic, which you need in the modern game. On the ball, it is something which he’ll need to keep on working.
“He’s got all the tools and credentials to be a top defender if he keeps on improving.”
Manchester United were 3-0 winners over Sunderland last weekend, and Mourinho’s men will host title-chasing Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
