Ian Wright makes claim about Man United signings, fans will be excited
Ian Wright says Marcus Rashford could be the man to step up and become Manchester United's star striker
Ian Wright has claimed that Marcus Rashford’s rise to prominence at Manchester United means that the Red Devils do not need to splash the cash on a big-name striker signing this summer.
Rashford earned plenty of praise for his performance on Sunday as he scored Manchester United’s opening goal in their 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester United are bound to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks and months as the summer transfer window draws ever nearer.
However, former Arsenal star Wright feels that Rashford could take on the mantle of Manchester United’s star striker in the season’s to come.
Speaking on BBC Sport’s 606 podcast, Wright said: “Of course, Manchester United, considering the stature of the club that they are, will want one of those massive strikers.
“[But] I believe at some stage Marcus Rashford will be the answer. He could be the answer. Of course you need back-up and he is young. But Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen were young.
“He is somebody who is ready to blast. Like Nicolas Anelka, when they’re ready to go, you can’t stop them.”
Rashford will be expecting to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Europa League action with a home clash against Anderlecht on Thursday night as they bid to reach the semi-finals of Europe’s second tier club competition.
