Juan Mata has told Manchester United fans that he is feeling fitter every day as he continues on his way to recovery from a groin injury.

The Spanish playmaker underwent groin surgery at the start of the month and has missed all of Manchester United’s games since the operation.

Mata was in the stands at Old Trafford as Manchester United recorded a 2-0 win over Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon as they blew the title race wide open.

Jose Mourinho said last week that he was expecting Mata to be available for selection again in late May.

And the player himself has now indicated that his recovery from surgery is going well as he looks to get himself back to full fitness as quickly as possible.

Mata wrote in his personal blog: “I went to Old Trafford to see the game [against Chelsea]. You feel like you want to jump onto the pitch and help the team, but I must be patient and keep training to be back as soon as possible.

“I’m feeling better every day and your messages of support do help a lot. I can’t stop thanking you!”
