Luke Shaw has promised Jose Mourinho that he will continue to work hard and prove himself to the Manchester United boss.

The left-back has been the subject of public criticism from the Red Devils boss this season and the defender has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first-team at Old Trafford.

Shaw will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils take on Chelsea in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

And the defender admits that he may not have been working as hard as he should have this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Shaw said: “I had a really good chat with him (after the criticism) and I totally agree with him – I will do whatever he wants.

“I’ve always been a hard worker but maybe, if I look back, maybe I wasn’t working as hard as he likes. We had a really good talk and he discussed what he wanted from me and even in a week-and-a-half I’ve seen a massive change in myself, not just on the pitch but off it as well.

“Now it’s my time to fight until the end of the season and show the boss what I can bring to help his team.”

Manchester United head into this weekend’s clash with Chelsea in fifth place in the Premier League table as they look to claw their way back into the top four before the season is out.

The Red Devils finished fifth and won the FA Cup last season before Mourinho was brought in as Louis van Gaal’s successor last summer.
