Jose Mourinho: This Man United star played fantastically well against Chelsea
Jose Mourinho was delighted by Marcus Rashford's performance for Manchester United against Chelsea on Sunday
Jose Mourinho singled out Marcus Rashford for special praise after his brilliant display in Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
The 19-year-old was a constant threat for the home side at Old Trafford and scored the opening goal in the seventh minute after being found by Ander Herrera’s brilliant pass.
Herrera then netted a second for Manchester United shortly after half-time to wrap up an impressive victory for the Red Devils against the Premier League leaders.
Rashford has scored five goals and made one assist in the Premier League so far this season.
And Mourinho was clearly delighted by the teenager’s contribution to Sunday’s Premier League victory.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game on Sunday, Mourinho said: “He played fantastically well. He also had a very good game at Stamford Bridge in the [FA] Cup.
“He had exactly the same chance to score, even playing with 10 men in the second half, because he is faster than their defenders and he can get behind them.
“But today he scored and it was in the beginning of the match, which gave the team more confidence and stability. So it was very important and the kid played fantastically well.”
Rashford will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils take on Anderlecht in the return leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash on Thursday night after last week’s 1-1 draw in Belgium.
