Michael Carrick has insisted that Manchester United have not given up hope of finishing in the top four this season.

The Red Devils suffered another potentially damaging blow to their Champions League qualification hopes when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

That result allowed Arsenal to leapfrog the Red Devils up into fifth place as the race for a top-four finish hots up.

Manchester United will aim to return to winning ways in the top flight when the Red Devils take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon.

And Carrick has insisted that the Red Devils have not given up hope of finishing in the top four this season.

Carrick told MUTV: “You can’t give up on anything and results can go funny ways sometimes.

“We’re obviously giving ourselves the tougher task but we’re not giving up.”
